Academic and clinical background
Doç. Dr. Ayhan Işık Erdal trained at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara — one of Turkey's most prestigious medical institutions — completing both his medical degree and his residency in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery there.
His academic title of Associate Professor ("Doç." in Turkish) is granted by the Turkish Inter-University Council based on a track record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations at international congresses, and teaching responsibilities. This is a substantive title — not a self-styled one — and reflects active engagement with the scientific community of plastic surgery.
He holds:
- FACS — Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
- FEBOPRAS — Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery
- USHAŞ certification #2026034015610080000444996 — Turkish Ministry of Health international health tourism authorization
- Membership in ISAPS, IPRAS, EURAPS, and the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery
Ministry of Health authorization
Turkish Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate — required by law for any clinic in Turkey treating international patients. Issued and verifiable through the Ministry's e-government system.
Philosophy on eyelid surgery
The eye region is, in our experience, the most unforgiving area in cosmetic surgery. A nose that has been over-operated reads as "done." A face that has been over-pulled reads as "lifted." But eyes that have been over-resected read as wrong — surprised, hollowed, mismatched — and the patient looks worse than they did before surgery. This is partly because eye contact is the most attention-rich human signal: when the eye region is off, viewers register it within milliseconds, even if they can't articulate why.
The practical implications for our work:
Conservative resection
It is always possible to remove more later. It is never possible to put it back. We err toward less skin and less fat, particularly in the lower lid.
Fat repositioning
Lower lid fat is repositioned over the orbital rim where possible, not excised. This preserves volume that would otherwise hollow with age.
Patient education first
Many patients who request blepharoplasty actually need brow lift, tear-trough filler, or no surgery at all. Identifying this in consultation is a service, not a lost sale.
Publications and scientific contribution
Dr. Erdal has authored peer-reviewed publications in international plastic surgery journals, with original technical contributions referenced in subsequent literature. Selected research interests include:
- Periorbital aesthetic surgery — fat preservation, lower lid stability, canthal anchoring
- Rhinoplasty — surgical maneuvers for tip definition
- Breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery
- Long-term outcome studies in facial rejuvenation
A complete publication list is available on request — for patients who want to verify the academic record before booking an international procedure, this is an entirely reasonable due diligence step.
Clinic location
Teşvikiye Caddesi No:9/12, Şişli, Istanbul 34365, Türkiye
The practice is located in Nişantaşı — historically Istanbul's most exclusive residential and commercial district — within a few minutes' walk of major hotels (St. Regis, Le Méridien) and 30 minutes by car from Istanbul Airport. The location is intentional: international patients should not have to combine recovery with a long city transit.
Consultations are held in-person in the clinic, or by video call (Zoom/WhatsApp) for international patients in pre-surgical evaluation.
Schedule a consultation
The first conversation costs you nothing. Doç. Dr. Erdal personally reviews every enquiry and will tell you honestly whether blepharoplasty is appropriate for your case.
